Temple SF's old dot-matrix rig went in a dumpster to make room for mine. This is that look, rebuilt at 16x16.
About the project
The old rigs at Temple Denver and Temple San Francisco both had a specific look, big fields of circular dots, and the San Francisco one was the rig I tore out myself to make room for the new install. I wanted that look back on my wall. Dot Matrix is a flat white square until it powers on, and then 256 circles appear where there were none.
The circles are not on the surface. They are black filament printed behind a solid white front layer, framing every cell of a 16 by 16 grid from the inside. I tried to run the enclosure on my IDEX printer first and it could not lay down the pattern inside cells that small. It just kept failing. I shelved the project until I got a Bambu X1C, which finally put the two colors down face down on the bed without making a mess. Printing the whole thing face down on a machine that could hold the pattern was the only way to get a surface that flat.
